In my 27 years, I have worked with over 570 companies. Regretfully, only a small percentage allowed me to get a glimpse of what successful companies look like. I think Jim Collins found this to be the case when he went on his exhaustive research for his many books like Good to Great. Great companies do have great leaders, and it’s not as complicated as we might think.
In this article, I document what Jim noted in his research. Developing leaders does matter. If there is one company where I gained the most insight as to the impact of successfully developing leaders, it was Chick-fil-A. Not only do they have great leaders, they have engaged employees and dominate the market. Mark Miller, the designer of great leadership at Chick-fil-A, keeps it simple but intentional.
